If you are experiencing distress, then psychological intervention and therapy aims to be of assistance to you. Dr. Thompson advocates safe, ethical and evidence-based psychological practice. She ensures she works within her areas of competence and complies with the professional requirement of monthly clinical supervision to ensure she provides clients with the best possible care. If Dr. Thompson is of the clinical opinion that she is unable to assist you, she will recommend a referral to another psychologist specialist.

Short term therapy can be from 1 to 12 sessions.  Long term therapy can be up to 2 years.  On-going therapy is also available whereby clients return during times in their life when they feel time out of their usual daily activities is required to explore the issues and concerns impacting upon them.  If necessary, a review of therapeutic progress is scheduled every 12 sessions.

introductory consultation

For people who are uncertain whether therapy is right for them, an Introductory Consultation  lasting up to 50 minutes is available.  This provides an opportunity to discuss the process of therapy, to determine if you feel comfortable talking with Maria and to address any queries you may have.
